Are Appointments Required or Do You Accept Walk-In Patients?
While appointments are always recommended, Focus West Optometry is happy to accommodate emergency and walk-in patients at our Calgary office whenever possible.
Should I Wear My Contact Lenses to the Eye Exam?
At Focus West Optometry we offer two types of eye exams: An eye examination, which should be scheduled every year or two to check for vision and eye health issues; and a contact lens examination, which determines how your eyes are reacting to the presence of contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed approximately two hours prior to your eye examination so that your eyes have an opportunity to return to their relaxed state. You should wear your contact lenses as usual if you are having a contact lens exam.
How Often Should I Have My Eyes Examined?
It is important to have your eyes examined regularly throughout your lifetime, but patients of a certain age or those who are at a high risk for glaucoma should have their eyes examined more frequently. A good rule of thumb is:
I haven’t Noticed Any Vision Problems; Why Should I See the Doctor?
Some vision problems come on so gradually that we remain unaware of changes until they have progressed. Early detection through regular and complete eye examinations performed by a licensed optometrist is the key to protecting your vision from damage caused by glaucoma and other maladies.
Is My Eye Exam Covered by Medical Insurance?
The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) provides coverage for a yearly eye exam for children under the age of 19 and seniors over the age of 65. Eye examinations for adults 20 to 64 years of age are not covered.
Do You Offer Direct Billing to My Insurance Company?
Focus West Optometry offers direct billing through Blue Cross only, but we are happy to submit a bill on your behalf to other select companies. Visit our office for details.
